Windows – why should I upgrade from an older version?

There’s been an awful lot of confusing and conflicting media attention given to Windows operating systems, in recent years. Microsoft took a big risk with Windows 8/8.1 in changing the way we interact with Windows in order to bring consistency across many types of device (desktops & laptops with or without touchscreens, tablets and smartphones, as well as games consoles). In short, they took away the Start Menu, which had been around since Windows 95. To a lot of people it felt like being launched headfirst out of a cannon without a crash helmet.

The ‘Charms’ bar popping up randomly down the right hand side got in the way at times too (to put it mildly). Those users who had already moved off XP onto Windows 7 made resolutions to stay put on 7 for a very long time, if only to keep their precious start menu! Enough of 8 though!

The world’s a better place with Windows 10

In Windows 10, Microsoft has refined the product even further and brought back the Start menu, with a new look. Users are breathing a sigh of relief.

The underlying operating system isn’t all that different to Windows 7, 8, & 8.1, but it certainly loads a lot faster, so you can get on with your work a lot quicker, when you’re booting from cold. There’s more to it than just the above of course. Read on for a bit more info. Or better still give us a call today to find out how Windows 10 could make your business world a better place to be. It’s guaranteed to be better than staying in the land of XP. And there’s a great deal for current Windows 7 & 8/8.1 users to get excited about too.

We make it easy for you to upgrade your business to Windows 10

Read on for 7 reasons why you should leave XP behind, skip over 7 & 8 and head over to Windows 10 right now…

1. If you’re still on XP you’re putting your business data at risk. There haven’t been any new security updates for XP since shortly after Microsoft ended extended support for this legacy product. If your anti-virus provider is still producing an XP-compatible version of their product it won’t be long before they drop it. Support for Vista will go the same way soon (but who the heck liked flaky old Vista anyway?) The currently available free upgrade to Windows 10 isn’t available to XP and Vista users though, so it’s time to consider buying new hardware with Windows 10 pre-installed.

2. Windows 10 is a key part of Microsoft’s current portfolio of products. If you upgrade one part of your infrastructure, e.g. your server, your users will get a better experience and you’ll get a better return on your investment if you also upgrade your desktop PCs and/or the operating system and productivity (Office) software. Do half a job and expect half the desired results.

3. XP is not compatible with the current Windows Server 2012 R2, or Office 2013/2016, or Office 365. XP was designed to work with older server products, which Microsoft no longer supports, or which Microsoft is ending support for this summer. Even Vista will not work well with some of the current products either. Time to move on!

4. The hardware that you’ve got XP running on is probably OLD and possibly UNRELIABLE. Crashing PCs mean lost productivity (and stressed out staff). Lost productivity is simply money down the drain.

5. Other legacy software you are clinging onto, which may not run well (if at all) on newer versions of Windows, is probably no longer supported by the vendor anyway. If it stops working your business operations might stop too. No productivity at all means no business (and even more money down the drain, as well as damage to your reputation). But worry not. It may be possible to get your older software running in an XP virtual environment within Windows 10 Pro as a stopgap, just until you can migrate onto newer versions of legacy products.

6. Security – Pro and Enterprise editions include Bitlocker. Protect the valuable business data stored on your local Hard Disk Drive or Solid State Drive, with encryption. Without access to the Bitlocker encryption key the data cannot be read.

7. If you have a PC, laptop or tablet with Windows 7, 8 or 8.1 now, between now and July 2016 you can upgrade to the comparable version of Windows 10 for free. The upgrade is completely free if you’re prepared to DIY, but things can go wrong.
