Office 365 plan names are changing

Wondering why Office 365 plan names are changing? Microsoft have recently rebranded some of their Office 365 service names to align with the Microsoft 365 range of productivity and security solutions. See the table below.

There are no changes to pricing or features included with each licence.

What does this mean for you?

If you have Office 365 Business Essentials, Business Premium or Microsoft 365 Business then the only change is that your subscription has been updated to the new name and this is reflected on your monthly invoice. There is nothing you need to do.

We’ve been working with Office 365 for 9 years, so some of us, might use the old and new names interchangeably, whilst we all get used to the new names, but other than that it’s business as usual. Same brilliant and easy to use apps, same fabulously reliable and secure market-leading services.

Why is this change needed?

Microsoft launched Office 365 in 2011 giving organisations a simple, but very powerful way to start moving their IT infrastructure to the cloud. SMBs all over the world now benefit from ways to communicate and collaborate wherever their people and customers happen to be. The modern workplace became reality.

Almost a decade later Microsoft 365 is the champion productivity and security solution, including Office 365, plus a suite of vital security and management tools to meet the business IT needs of today and the future. In this first round of Office 365 plan names changing Microsoft is simply pulling some of the various subscription plans, both Microsoft 365 and Office 365, into a single brand.

Not all Office 365 plan names are changing to the new branding. The basic Exchange Online & Sharepoint Online products, the security & archiving add-ons, and the Enterprise and Academic subscription plans, remain unchanged for now. There may be more name changes in the coming months and we will advise accordingly in due course.
