What are the benefits of ChatGPT’s Study Mode?
The benefits? Instead of passively reading or watching, you’ll be actively engaging with the material. ChatGPT breaks down complex ideas into digestible explanations, tests your understanding with quiz-style questions, and adapts to your pace. This makes it easier to spot knowledge gaps and reinforce what you’ve learned.
By weaving in practice and feedback, Chat GPT’s Study Mode helps you move beyond memorisation to true comprehension. It’s intended to be like having a personal tutor available 24/7—ready to explain, quiz, and guide you toward mastery.
OK, so are there any cons?
Of course! All AI systems are very much in their infancy still, so do remember to cross-check facts against known good information sources to be sure ChatGPT’s output is accurate.
ChatGPT can, and does, still make mistakes. Last thing you need is to be quoting a ChatGPT ‘hallucination’ in an important exam, so it would be best to use ChatGPT as just a small part of your study regime. Don’t rely on it as your only means of studying!
It may be that ChatGPT Study Mode could be most helpful on topics for which there’s already plenty of well-established facts and official, reliable study material available on the internet for it to utilise and pull together for you. If ChatGPT were to rely on any of the dodgy (and indeed utterly incorrect) information we see posted in public tech forums, from time to time it might easily chuck out some totally unhelpful nonsense!
As always, how you phrase your prompts is key to getting information out that will help you.
And for data security’s sake, do check your ChatGPT settings and make sure any data you paste into your ChatGPT prompt is not going to be used to train its models and is kept secure.
